Ömer Sedat Yenidoğan

Ömer Sedat Yenidoğan was born in Germany in 1987 and moved to Turkey to continue his education. After studying Physics at Yıldız Technical University, he pursued his interest in art by transferring to the Photography Department at Marmara University's Faculty of Fine Arts, graduating in 2017. Yenidoğan's works question the concept of power and the individual's relationship with their environment. Utilizing materials that represent power, he creates layers through elements that stand apart from compositions; he addresses these layers with a baroque style while presenting them to the viewer with a simple narrative. At the core of his artistic production are the human body, religion, mythology, social norms, and the various roles assigned to the individual. Approaching the biological formation of the body without subjecting it to any gender definition, the artist makes visible the individual's process of self-discovery and the desire to share this discovery with others. Due to being raised in a conservative family environment, religious and mythological themes hold significant importance in his artistic practice. Yenidoğan visualizes themes such as power, hierarchy, and societal collapse through a monochrome aesthetic and baroque elements, offering viewers the opportunity to reflect on their own social roles and the impact of power on our identities. He endeavors to anonymize bodies by blurring them within time and space, and to transform bodies by concealing faces. This approach aims to create a field of production that questions social norms and encourages the individual to confront their own self. The artist's works address the human condition, social structures, and the pervasive impact of power on our lives, inviting viewers to re-think identity, power, and social norms. Through photography and visual arts, he constructs a narrative that questions the individual's position within society and their self-perception.
